Timber Lake Skp Park, Sutherlin

You will note in my last blog that I was talking about the wonderful temps here in Sutherlin; well that’s what the chamber of commerce data says. Actually a week ago last Friday, the temp got up to 105 degrees - hot, hot, hot. It remained hot for 3 days so Toby and I got in the air conditioned car and headed for the coast. We traveled up and down the coast and walked on the beach, went to the Sand Dunes, walked around Winchester Bay, watched the herd of elk at Reedsport, went to the Umpqua River Lighthouse with a spectacular view of the Umpqua River emptying into the Pacific Ocean. We also took some tours closer to home and explored a lot of back roads through the Umpqua valley and foot hills of the Cascades. It was a great way to keep cool. By the time we returned home about 7:30 we just had to run the air conditioner for 30 minutes and we were ready for a cool evening meal and bed. So we had 3 days of touring the area and really falling in love with it. Last Tuesday the weather turned cooler. It’s now running in the 60’s and low 70’s during the day and cool at night, a little rainy and misty, with little sunshine. This is my kind of weather!!!!
Last week the park had an Oregon Trail Chapter 9 Rally here. People came in from other Escapee parks and we had 3 days of good food, fun, games, door prizes, entertainment, and meeting some really great folks. It was a bit of a startling awakening as I was in the clubhouse meeting people, visiting, eating and enjoying the entertainment to realize that I was having fun with all these old folks. The awakening occurred when I realized that at least 1/3 of the “old folks” were actually younger than I was. Hmmmm, when did I become the older generation??? I have a difficult time realizing I’m not “young”, difficult that is until I try to do something and my body rebels - vigorously rebels. At any rate, the rally was fun and I’m looking forward to the Big Rally/Escapade in Gillette, WY in June. Whereas we had about 50 people at our Chapter 9 Rally, there will be 100’s in Gillette.
I decided to stay home this Memorial Day weekend and not join the crazy folks on the highways. This is a good time to do laundry and a little housekeeping – very little, and good reading weather. I’ll do more driving and exploring, this time headed east into the mountains, during the next 2 weeks. I want to see more covered bridges and lots of waterfalls. I’ll be leaving here about the middle of June and heading for Montana where I’ll visit my cousins Betty and Jackie and their families. Then my friend Donna from Scottsbluff will meet me in Missoula after she has visited with her mother and we’ll head for Gillette for the Escapade.
Toby is the best traveling companion ever. He’s right at home wherever we go (well of course he’s at home – home goes with us). I love my motor home. Monte is very comfortable and just the right size for Toby and me.
